Shamanic Healing for your Animal
Thank you for your interest in Shamanic work for your animal. Please continue reading to find out more about this type of healing work, what it entails and how it can help you and your animal.
What is Shamanic healing?
Shamanic healing is an ancient art of healing originating in indigenous communities and still practiced by many around the world today. It is also a practice which is currently enjoying a popular revival over the last 20 years outside of indigenous cultures particularly in the western world.
Essentially Shamanic Healing is about restoring Power and Connection: Connection with ourselves and connection with the world within which we inhabit. When a person or animal lose this connection to themselves, they can become either physically or/and emotionally ill or unbalanced. It is the loss of Power that comes with this disconnect that the Shaman seeks to restore through working with their Spirit Helpers, thus bringing harmony and healing back to the body, mind and Spirit of the person or animal.
The Shamanic Practitioner has developed and nurtured a connection (akin to a bridge) to the Spirit World and holds the Space for their Spirit Helpers to work with your animal. In the particular approach that I practice, the Shaman enters a trance-like state (aided by a Drum or Rattle) in order to enter a different reality, taking the essence of the animal on a Journey to meet Spirit Helpers in order to receive healing.
How can this approach help my animal?
By restoring lost power, lost connection or removing unhelpful energy or removing unhelpful connections.
Lost power can be as a result of trauma resulting in a partial loss of connection for the animal to it’s own Power. Unhelpful energy can be picked up or traded and can be removed – other more appropriate energy is then brought in to replace the unhelpful energy. Sometimes this can happen in reverse with the helpful energy dislodging and expelling the unhelpful energy.
Disconnecting from unhelpful connections can also be necessary, thus restoring harmony.
Your animal will be brought the healing that it needs – not what we think it needs. Often as guardians and owners we have a very specific idea in our heads as to what that might be and how the issue needs to be fixed. Whilst this can be correct, it is important to let go of our own expectations and understand that the healing will go to and manifest where it is needed, as opposed to where and how we want it to go to or how we want it to manifest. Often, we can not see the bigger picture or understand the Soul’s journey so we need to be open to trusting and supporting the animal in its healing process.
How does loss of connection occur?
Mostly through trauma (either acute or chronic) or through un-met needs. In order to survive, in a traumatic situation, an animal (or human) will shut down that part of it that is affected and will create a disconnect in order to protect itself. It is this disconnect that the Shaman and their helpers restore – by returning or reconnecting with the healed lost part. This is a process sometimes referred to as Soul retrieval in Shamanic parlance. Disconnection is often accompanied by an illness, precipitated by a loss of Power as a result of the disconnection. It can be the case that when the Power is restored the illness or dis-ease in the body can dissolve spontaneously or will then respond to conventional treatments when previously it had not.
How does a Shamanic Session work with your animal?
Initially, a photo is required in order to check in with your animal. A check in is required to find out if it is appropriate that we work with your animal and also for any other guidance Spirit may give before any work proceeds. There is a fee for this (see below).
You or your animal does not have to be present and a photo is sufficient to connect with, and help your animal.
You do not have to do anything or be anywhere with your animal, although it is advisable that any work is not carried out whilst the session is in progress. Your animal may feel tired or lethargic afterwards or may seem like a couch potato for a few days but energy levels will return to normal within a day or two.
If your animal is part of a pack or herd, you may also notice a change in the dynamics of the pack/herd. This is a natural necessary adjustment to your animal’s restored health.
